Convert Visitors to Customers
The
E-Commerce Guide is a helpful website for online merchants who are looking to improve their services and generate more sales from an online store. In their June 8th article, they discuss the importance of your sales conversion rate; that is, the number of website visitors that you can convert into spenders.
The article has plenty of interesting facts and tips to get the gears in your brain turning. Here, I will outline what I think are the most important points:
- Simplicity improves conversion
- Be analytical of your website statistics - First of all, make sure when developing your website that you go with a hosting company that provides you with website traffic statistics -- for free! With this tool, you should quickly be able to tell which pages of your site are doing well and which aren't. Some pages may be buried too many clicks deep within your site. Modify your website's structure to make your popular pages gateways into pages that will lead to more sales.
- Build Trust - If a visitors doesn't feel that their private information (Credit Card Number, Address, etc.) is safe on your site, you will get much fewer sales. Get a shopping cart that is secure, that is branded with the look and feel of the rest of your site, and provide many assurances that you are reputable company who takes customer privacy very seriously.
- Cater to repeat customers - These visitors are your best marketers. A happy customer will buy again, and spread the word about their positive experience. Offer promotions and discounts, send reminders, and do what it takes to make the customers (who've already done business with you) want to do business again.
